ART OF GEORGE WILLIAM VAN HUMBECK

I started oil painting as a young boy of  eleven. Although I had worked on a few oils as an adult, I primarily worked with acrylics. At this time in my practice I was itching to try oils again. While I was waiting for the burnt umber underpainting of  Into the Light  to dry sufficiently, I threw myself into the plans for another oil painting. Anyone who has visited the lake country of Ontario knows that there is no such thing as sleeping in. The call of the wildlife and the cold damp air will see to that. I thought that this early morning air was calling for oil and I was eager to embellish the colours my mind were trying to relive. Did you notice: another shoreline with a thousand stones, but this time in oil?
