I like painting these small works especially after I've complete a large work that has taken a long time. Sometimes I will work on a small wildlife painting in preparation to incorporate that wildlife into a larger work. In the planning of the composition of Uplifted, I had always planned to paint a golden eagle in the painting. My, how plans change! I had worked on several sketches that might suit Uplifted before I decided to try and capture that watchful eye.
